Gubernatorial Candidates Education Funding Forum to be Rebroadcast

Sept. 8, 2004

PORTSMOUTH, NH - The Gubernatorial Candidates Education Funding Forum will be rebroadcast on local cable Channel 22 this week and also is available round-the-clock from any computer with Internet access, the Coalition Communities announced Wednesday.

The Coalition's 1 ½-hour Forum Tuesday night at Portsmouth City Hall will be shown on Channel 22 again at 7 p.m. on Thursday and noon on Friday, as well as 5 p.m. Monday - the eve of the September 14 primary. Channel 22 is the government access channel seen in Portsmouth, Rye, New Castle, Greenland and Newington.

In addition, the webcasted version of the Forum can be viewed round-the-clock from any computer worldwide via the City of Portsmouth web site, www.cityofportsmouth.com, by clicking on the "Webcast Archives" section at the top of the Web page.

The Forum featured Democratic candidates John Lynch of Hopkinton and Paul McEachern of Portsmouth, as well as Republican Charles Tarbell of New Castle.

Gov. Craig Benson opted out of the Forum over the weekend, saying he had to attend a campaign event for Vice President Cheney in Manchester. The Coalition kept his seat available after learning the event had ended in more than enough time for Benson to attend the Forum in Portsmouth.

"Our Coalition's Forum was the first, and only, venue for the candidates to focus solely on this issue. It's a shame that Craig Benson chose not to participate at the last minute after committing to attend weeks ago," said Mayor Sirrell, leader of the Coalition.

"I hope that as a result of our Forum, the voters will be able to make a well-informed choice about which candidates are truly committed to solving the education funding issue - which everyone agrees is the most critical issue facing our state - and which candidates would show true leadership in the corner office," the Mayor said.
