Info Meeting on Maple Haven work

PORTSMOUTH – The City will hold a public information meeting Tuesday, March 22, regarding planned pavement and storm drainage work for both the north and south sections of Maple Haven.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Eileen Dondero Foley City Council Chambers and will include an overview of the project and a question and answer session.  Plans for the project, scheduled to begin in July and conclude in late September, will be available for review.

The storm drainage system in the area is undersized and in need of replacement. A number of homes in the neighborhood still have basement sump pumps that discharge into the sewer line leaving the home, which is not allowed in the City of Portsmouth. City officials say the cumulative effect of the illegal sump pumps can cause sewer system backups. Homeowners with sump pumps tied into the City sewer line are urged to contact the City, which will be installing drain connections for properties that need them, by emailing djdesfos@cityofportsmouth.com or calling 766-1411 to coordinate the work.

Anyone with general questions also should contact the Department of Public Works project manager, David Desfosses, at 766-1411.
