Location Change for Coalition Communities Meeting

PORTSMOUTH - The Coalition Communities of 27 towns trying to overturn the statewide property tax is moving its Tuesday, Dec. 4, meeting from the Statehouse to a nearby meeting hall.

Although the Coalition has planned since Nov. 8 to meet at the Legislative Office Building, the group learned this week that there was some confusion relative to the use of Statehouse facilities, and decided to move to the nearest available meeting space as soon as possible in order to allow for time to contact all members.

The meeting will now take place at the hall of St. Paul's Church, 21 Centre Street, from 10 a.m. until noon, as previously scheduled. A news conference will be held following the meeting, in which Coalition members will discuss whether to mount a new legal challenge to the constitutionality of the statewide property tax and hiring full-time staff to lead campaign against the statewide property tax.

Portsmouth is the largest of the 27 towns that joined forces in 1999 to fight the statewide property tax. The other Coalition Communities are Alton, Bridgewater, Eaton, Franconia, Freedom, Grantham, Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Hanover, Hart's Location, Hebron, Jackson, Lincoln, Meredith, Moultonborough, New Castle, New London, Newington, North Hampton, Rye, Sandwich, Seabrook, Stoddard, Sunapee and Waterville Valley.
