CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Meeting Minutes

March 6, 2002 Portsmouth City Hall 5:15 p.m.

Present: Robert Layton, Chairman; Cicero Lewis; Nancy Emerson; Lynne Langley; William Thorpe; Jean Pecunies and Vern Gardner.

Absent: Russ Van Billiard (notified staff); Dani Rooney (notified staff).

Staff: Cindy Hayden, Community Development Director; Karen Jacoby, Community Development Program Manager.

Chairman Layton opened the meeting at 5:15 p.m. Cindy Hayden, Community Development Director, distributed the minutes from the February 26, 2002 public hearing for review by the CAC and action on March 7, 2002 if CAC members wished.

Chairman Layton asked the first scheduled applicant to the Public Service Agency Grant program to make their presentation. Each applicant was welcomed and advised they had 10 minutes to make their presentation and 5 minutes for a question and answer period. Presentations were heard from the following agency representatives:

Patricia Spiller, Executive Director, A Safe Place

Assiah Russell, Director of Client Services, AIDS Response of the Seacoast

Jackie Cowell, Executive Director, Community Child Care Center

George Samuels, Family Counseling Program Director, Child and Family Services

Stephanie Harrison, Funding Assistant, Sexual Assault Support Services

Helen Taft, Executive Director, Health Services Program, Families First of the Greater Seacoast

Keryn Kriegl, Family Services Director, Family Support Program, Families First of the Greater Seacoast

In response to a discussion regarding the need for transportation to the Community Campus, where Families First and Community Child Care, are located, CAC members asked staff to find out the status of the COAST bus route up Route 1. Ms. Hayden said she would provide this information at the next CAC meeting.

Having no further business, Chairman Layton adjourned the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
