Minutes of September 7, 2001

In anticipation of Chairman Simpson’s arrival, Commissioner Ferrini opened the meeting and asked for a motion regarding the minutes of September 7, 2001. Mr. Pafford moved and Mr. Taylor seconded the motion to approve meeting minutes as written. The motion passed unanimously.

Update on Mayors Blue Ribbon Committee on Arts and Culture –EDC Representation at Presentation of Draft Plan at October 22, 2001 City Council Work Session

The Mayors Blue Ribbon Committee on Arts and Culture will present the draft Cultural Plan at a City Council work session on October 22, 2001. The Committee has been meeting for the past twenty months holding focus groups, interviewing stakeholders in the community’s arts and cultural community and gathering data about the economic impact of arts and culture on the economic vitality of Portsmouth. It will present the draft plan to the City Council on October 22, 2001 at 5:30 PM in the City Council Chambers. Ms. Carmer encouraged representation from the EDC at the work session. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 5:00 PM for refreshments prior to the work session.

Other Business

Commissioner re-appointments – Members were polled to determine interest in reappointment to the Commission as several members’ terms expired October 1, 2001. All members except Commissioners Hayes indicated a desire to serve another four-year term. Mr. Hayes said that, although he enjoys working on the Commission, he feels he should not serve another term because he spends the winters in Florida.
Northern Tier EDC Subcommittee Confirmation- A subcommittee meeting with Mr. Griswold has tentatively been set for October 17^th at 4:00 PM at the Sheraton. Subcommittee Members attending are Scott Pafford, Tom Ferrini, Cliff Taylor, John Bohenko and Nancy Carmer.
Worth Parking Lot EDC Subcommittee Confirmation – EDC members Mark Simpson, Everett Eaton, Paul Harvey and Steve Alie volunteered to sit on a subcommittee to discuss development and parking opportunities at the Worth Lot with representatives of the Worth Development Corporation.
Tech Connect, a half-day technology conference, will be held on October 11, 2001 from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Frank Jones Center. It is an e-Coast initiative to provide information and networking opportunities for the high tech sector.

Adjourn Meeting – The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 AM at which time members departed for the Pease Tradeport bus tour.
